Abstract

Hair is tinted by a process wherein colour particles are sprayed on to the hair and held thereon by a fixative. By colour particles are meant particles of pigments, metallic powder or other finely divided material, while aluminium powder which may be anodized or tinted, flock, a mixture of blue flock and alumina powder, mica and fluorescent powdered material are specified. Specified fixatives are stearic acid, natural and synthetic resins such as colophony, mutton fat or lard, alcohols and silicones, while wetting agents may also be used. When metallic particles are used it is preferred that the fixative has good insulating properties so that the spraying will charge the particles with static electricity which will cause them to be attracted to the hair. The fixative may be used to coat the particles and then the coated particles sprayed on to the hair, or the colour particles may be sprayed dry and the fixative sprayed on before or afterwards. It is preferred that the fixative is removable by a shampoo or detergent. The particles may be sprayed from a container, preferably an elastic one having a single orifice and carrying a pipe connecting the orifice to a position well inside the container. The container may also have agitating means inside it such as a flap or stem or silver sand. A final lacquer coating may be applied on the fixed particles. Specifications 573,855, [Group XV], and 721,056 are referred to.
