714,290. Direct positive photographic emulsions. MASON & SONS, Ltd., E. N., GLASSETT, J. W., and SUTTON, F. S. June 5, 1953 [March 14, 1952], No. 6630/52. Class 98(2) A direct positive fogged silver halide emulsion contains a desensitizing quaternary salt of γ:γ'- dipyridyl. Exposure may be effected with yellow light. In example 1, an aqueous solution of N:N'-dibenzyl-γ:γ'-dipyridylium dichloride (" benzyl viologen ") is added to a silver chloride emulsion, which is then coated on paper, dried, and fogged with white light. Example 2 is similar, using " ethyl viologen ". According to the Provisional Specification, quaternary salts of substituted γ: γ'-dipyridyls may be used.
