Class 38(4) [Also in Group VIII] In an automatic guide for correcting sidewise displacement of the wire-cloth 2 of a paper-making machine &c., e.g. incorporating induction coil-detectors 7 and a circuit as disclosed in Specification 367,928, [Group XXXVII], the detectors are moved at the same time as the guide-roll axis, so that " hunting " is reduced. The detector 7 is on a bracket 15, allowing adjustment of height, of inclination and of position laterally of the wire-cloth 2, the bracket 15 &c. sliding on rods 13 and being linked by a bell-crank lever 27 and an arm 28 with a sliding bracket 4a supporting a bearing of the guide roll 1. Drift of the wire-cloth 2 towards one side or the other energizes either a solenoid 40 or a solenoid 41 respectively, causing an arm 43 to be moved against spring action at 44 and to bring a pawl 34 or a pawl 33 into engagement with a ratchet-wheel 31, the said pawls being spring-loaded and being continually reciprocated by an eccentric 37 &c. on the shaft of the guide-roll. The ratchet-wheel 31 is thereby moved along a fixed, screwed rod 30, and moves the bracket 4a. Alternatively a rotating lead-screw may be used; also, the detectors may be photo-electric.
