Abstract

711,594. Brick-moulding machines. MORGAN, I., and HANLON, E. G. March 6, 1952 [Dec. 6, 1950], No. 29856/50. Class 87 (2) In order to turn a brick issuing from a brick press into a suitable position for sanding or rusticating, a pivotable carriage actuated in synchronism with the piston of the press is adapted to receive a brick in one position from the press and to present the brick in a relatively turned position, the carriage receiving the brick when its supporting surface is in a substantially horizontal position, and actuating means are provided to turn the carriage through substantially a right angle, thereby tipping off the brick in the turned position on to a substantially horizontal receiving surface. When the crosshead 8 of the press moves downwards it. depresses a lever 5 which in turn moves levers 6, 7, upwards, and when the crosshead moves upwards the levers 6, 7 move downwards under their own weight and cause the, lever 5 to rise with the crosshead. The pivotable carriage 9 is in the form of an angle plate and is mounted so that it receives a brick from a shoot 11 as the crosshead 8 moves, upwards. The lever 6 is connected by a link 10 and universal joints 6A, 10A to an arm 9C on the carriage 9. When a brick has been deposited on the horizontal side of the carriage the crosshead 8 moves downwards and the lever 6, moving upwards, causes the carriage to turn through a; right angle and deposit the brick face upwards on a conveyer 13. The lever 7 moves in synchronism with the lever 6 and is connected thereto by a crossbar 21 on an extension of which a link 14 is pivoted. The link 14 operates a bell crank 16A which, through a link 17, advances a crosspiece 19 and slide rods 20 when the lever 7 rises, i.e. when the carriage 9 returns to its former position after depositing the brick, the rods 20 there causing a pusher 30 to push the last brick right up to the column of bricks already on the conveyer. The arrangement is duplicated for a double type brick-moulding machine, in which case, if the bricks are required in single column on the conveyer, an additional lever, secured to the sleeve 4 which-carries the levers 6, 7, operates a tranverse pusher whereby the last brick deposited by one carriage is moved into line with the last brick deposited by the other carriage.
