Abstract

710,932. Plate heat - exchangers. CREAMERY PACKAGE MFG. CO.. Ltd. Aug. 17, 1951 [Aug. 19, 1950], No. 20572/50. Class 64(3) A combined integral gasket and partition for a plate heat-exchanger is made of flexible synthetic rubber or plastic and comprises a central web portion constituting the partition b and a surrounding or frame portion constituting the gasket b', the thickness of the partition b being less than that of the gasket b<SP>1</SP>, the partition being provided on opposite sides with protuberances b<SP>3</SP> constituting spacing members between the partition and the presented faces of metal plates a spaced from and disposed on either side of the partition, inlet and outlet ports b<SP>4</SP> being formed in the gasket and the partition for the passage of the heat-exchanging fluids through the apparatus. The protuberances b<SP>3</SP> may serve also to cause the heat-exchanging fluids to take a tortuous path through the apparatus. The partition b may also be formed with a series of large apertures b<SP>2</SP>. A small beading b<SP>5</SP> may be formed on each face of the gasket b<SP>1</SP> to facilitate the sealing effect (see also Fig. 2, not shown). The partition may be strengthened by thin sheet metal inserts.
