Abstract

703,177. Stencilling. WELSH, R. May 3, 1951, No. 10455/51. Class 100 (2) Designs in thermoplastic colouring compounds are applied to objects by apparatus comprising a screen 18 which includes or has an intimate association with it filaments of electrically conducting material, the filaments being heated by an applied or induced current so as to maintain the compounds at the required molten condition. The screen itself may be composed of metal wires forming the filaments ; it may be of a fabric, such as silk with an overlying series of filaments or with an overlying screen of filaments; or it may be of a fabric with filaments woven into it at spaced intervals. The screen shown has brazed to it conducting strips 30 which are connected by a lead 45 to a power pack by which the supply of electricity can be controlled. The screen is mounted in a frame 14 having tongues 15 which can be clamped, by slidable clamps 13, in the required position on a frame structure 11, 12. A squeegee 28 moves over the screen to force the colouring compounds on to the surface of the article, such as a tumbler 25; to be coloured, the squeegee being mounted on an oscillating cam 29 and the tumbler between rubber studs 27 on a pair of posts 26 carried by a reciprocating arm 24.
