Abstract
701,341. Photographic colour development. GENERAL ANILINE & FILM CORPORATION. Dec. 17, 1951 [Dec. 22, 1950], No. 29514/51. Class 98(2) In the production of subtractively coloured azine dye images in superimposed silver halide emulsion layers containing colour couplers capable of reacting with the oxidation products of a substituted or unsubstituted 2:4-diaminoaniline to produce azine dyes by developing the exposed emulsions with a colour developer containing a 2:4-diaminoaniline as the effective developing agent, stain after colour development is avoided by rinsing the developing emulsion with an aqueous solution containing 0.1 to 10 per cent by weight of formaldehyde and 0.1 to 10 per cent by weight of a water-soluble acid, e.g. hydrochloric, phosphoric, acetic, maleic, citric, acrylic, oxalic, or tartaric acid. Numerous developing agents, e.g. 4-(#-hydroxyethylamino)-6- (4<SP>1</SP>-carboxymethyloxyphenylamino)-metanilic acid, yellow couplers, e.g. a: α<SP>1</SP>-terephthaloylbis-(3-chloro- 4:6-dimethoxyacetanilide), non-migratory yellow couplers, e.g. 2-(m-benzoylacetaminophenyl)-1- octadecyl-5-benzimidazolesulphonic acid magenta couplers, e.g. 6-stearoylamino-2-(2<SP>1</SP>-phenyl-6<SP>1</SP>- bromo-8<SP>1</SP>-hydroxycinchonyl)- aminotoluene - 4 - sulphonic acid, and cyan couplers, e.g. the dodecyl urethane of #-sulphoethyl-J-acid, are referred to. In example 1, an exposed red-sensitive emulsion containing the octadecyl urethane of phenyl-J-acid is developed to black-and-white, re-exposed, colour developed in an aqueous solution including 4-(#- hydroxyethylamino)-6-methylamino-metanilic acid, 2-aminopyridine, and ethylenediamine, rinsed, treated in an aqueous solution of hydrochloric acid and formaldehyde, washed, bleached, and fixed. In example 2, exposed multilayer material comprising a bottom red-sensitive emulsion layer containing the octadecyl urethane of phenyl-J-acid, a middle green-sensitive emulsion layer containing 2-stearoylamino-6-(8-hydroxycinchonoylamino)-toluene-4- sulphonic acid, and a top blue-sensitive emulsion layer containing 2-(4-benzoylacetaminophenyl)-1- octadecyl - 5 - benzimidazolesulphonic acid i s developed to black-and-white, treated in a stop bath, re-exposed, colour developed in a bath including 4-(#-hydroxyethylamino )-6-phenylaminometanilic acid, pyridine, and benzylamine, rinsed, treated in an aqueous solution of acetic acid and formaldehyde, washed, bleached, and fixed. In example 3, the exposed material of example 2 is colour developed in an, aqueous solution of 4-(#-hydroxyethylamino)-6-benzylamino - metanilic acid, hydroxylamine hydrochloride, potassium bromide, sodium sulphite, and trisodium phosphate, rinsed, treated in an aqueous solution of citric acid and formaldehyde, washed, bleached, and fixed. Specifications 640,109, 644,863 and 646,490 are referred to.
