Class 6 (2) [Also in Groups XVIII, XXVIII and XXIX] A device for applying liquid, and in particular weedkiller, to a selected area comprises a liquid container 1 whose outlet is connected to a resilient tube 22, and a spring-loaded plunger 5 slidable in a housing 4 disposed beneath the container and operatively connected to means, mounted externally of the housing, for maintaining the outlet from the tube normally closed and for causing a discharge of liquid from the tube when the plunger is moved against its spring. A rocker member 13, pivoted on a channel shaped bracket 10 welded to the housing, has spaced ends 13a, 13b which are adapted to obturate the tube ; the upper end of the rocker member is so shaped that as it squeezes the tube it forces liquid to be discharged therefrom. The device is preferably in the form of a walking stick so that when its lower end rests on the ground and pressure is applied to its handle 23, movement of the plunger 5 actuates the rocker member through a pin 17, connected to the plunger and passing through slots 19 in the housing, and a link 16. A spring or screw clip 29 is provided to close the tube 22 or alternatively a stop cock may be provided on the container outlet. In another embodiment, Fig. 3, the rocker member is connected by a pair of springs 26, disposed one on each side of the rocker member, to a pin 27 passing through the plunger. Movement of the plunger causes the springs to pass over their " dead centre " position and so actuate the rocker member with a snap action. The length of the rocker member may be adiustable for varying the quantity of liquid delivered. The container 1 has a closure 2 with an air vent and it may enclose a rubber or plastic sac which may be 'integral with the outlet tube 22. The handle may be adjustably mounted on the container for varying the effective length of the device. Blades 7, 24 are provided for damaging the weeds prior to the application of the weed killer.
