Abstract

699,673. Stands and brakes for scooters. SEBEL, D. April 4, 1952 [Jan. 17, 1952], No. 1425/52. Classes 136 (i) and 136 (iii) A scooter comprises braking means 10 and a collapsible ground engaging support 16 secured in its collapsed position by the brake means. A foot support 1 is mounted on two parallel frame members 2, 3 in which are pivotally mounted the legs 18, 19 of the support 16. The braking member 10 comprises a wheel engaging portion 11 of channel section each side wall of which is pivoted to one of the frames members 2, 3. A pedal portion 14 of the brake member extends over the foot support 1 and a spring 15 acts under compression to urge the wheel engaging portion 11 away from the wheel. Hooks 22 on the portions 11 have arcuate slots 23 which receive a ground engaging part 17 of the support 16 to retain the latter in the raised position. The slots are of sufficient length to allow the hooks 22 to slide on the part 17 when the brake is operated. When the support 16 is swung into or out of the raised position the portion 17 engages cam surfaces 24, 25 respectively on the hooks 22 and causes the brake to pivot away from the wheel to permit the portion 17 to enter or leave the slots 23. During this pivotal movement the spring 15 is under tension and will thus retain the support 16 in the slots when the brake member swings back. Forward movement of the support 16 when in the ground engaging position is limited by shoulders 21 on the support engaging the tubes 2, 3.
