Abstract

<PICT:0697204/III/1> In desulphurizing gases with moulded or granular purifying material by passing the material downwardly in counterflow to the gas in a layer over an inclined surface, the gas velocity is sufficiently high largely to counteract the pressure of the material on the surface without impeding its descent. Several purifier sections may be used in series side by side or one over the other. A high gas velocity is also employed for regeneration. With an average granule size of 5-10 mm. the gas velocity should be 20-80 cm. per sec. In the purifier shown alternate cones 2 and funnels 3 composed of rings 4 are disposed throughout the height of the tower which has a pocket feeder 9 at the top and a bottom discharge 11.
