Abstract

689,017. Internal shoe - drum brakes. AUTOMATIC PRODUCTS CO., Ltd. Dec. 14, 1951, No. 29371/51. Class 103 (i). The back-plate for an internal shoe-drum brake is made from the combination of a part 10 of relatively thick sheet-metal, e.g. 18 s.w.g., and a part 15 of lighter sheet-metal, e.g. 16 s.w.g., the two parts being secured together at a large number of points distributed over the whole area of contact. The part 10 is of roughly oblong shape so as to cover only the centre part of the open side of the brake drum and so as to include holes 24, 25 for mounting the actuators and shoe anchor members. The part 15 covers the whole of the open side of the drum so as to form a dust guard but is effective also to increase the strength of the back-plate as a whole. Any suitable method such as spot-welding, projection welding, or riveting may be used to join the plates 10 and 15.
