668,555. Stuffing boxes. GIBBONS, Ltd., J., and GIBBONS P. E. Feb. 14, 1950 [April 4, 1949], No. 9153/49. Class 122(v) [Also in Group XXV] A stuffing box for the piston rod 16 of a door closer and hydraulic check having a closing spring 2 contained in the check cylinder 3, comprises a rubber sealing washer 17 disposed in a cup 12 containing a relatively light spring 11 which maintains the washer in sealing engagement with the rod. The sealing washer is interposed between concave surfaces formed respectively in the cylinder head 13 and a metal washer 15. The closing spring presses a flange 14 on the cup against the cylinder head.
