Abstract

Apparatus for treatment of articles in a liquid comprises a rotatable drum partly immersed in the liquid, the drum having projections on its inner surface which agitate articles in the drum when the latter is rotated in one direction and withdraw the articles from the liquid when the drum is rotated in the reverse direction, means for introducing the articles into the drum co-operating with an opening in one end of the drum, and collecting means extending into the drum through an opening in the other end to receive the articles and discharge them towards the exterior of the drum as they are withdrawn from the liquid. In the apparatus shown, the drum is made from perforated plates 1, each having a straight section a, b and a curved section b, c. The drum is partly immersed in electrolyte in a tank 5. As the drum rotates in one direction the articles are subjected to treatment. Then the drum is rotated in the opposite direction and the articles are withdrawn from the liquid by the sections b, c and eventually drop on to a shoot 15 extending through an opening in one end of the drum. The articles are introduced into the drum by a hopper 24. The plates forming the drum are fixed to rings 18 provided on the outside with teeth so that the drum may be <PICT:0668396/IV (c)/1> <PICT:0668396/IV (c)/2> driven by a motor 8. The rings are grooved on the inside to engage rollers 20 supported in a framework 16 carrying the tank 5. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also a drum provided with straight or curved partitions projecting from the inner surface of the drum, whereby the articles are withdrawn as the drum rotates in one direction. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.ALSO:<PICT:0668396/III/1> <PICT:0668396/III/2> Apparatus for treatment of articles in a liquid, for example, degreasing metal articles, comprises a rotatable drum partly immersed in the liquid, the drum having projections on its inner surface which agitate articles in the drum when the latter is rotated in one direction and withdraw the articles from the liquid when the drum is rotated in the reverse direction, means for introducing the articles into the drum cooperating with an opening in one end of the drum, and collecting means extending into the drum through an opening in the other end to receive the articles and discharge them towards the exterior of the drum as they are withdrawn from the liquid. In the apparatus shown, the drum is made from perforated plates 1 each having a straight section a, b and a curved section b, c. The drum is partly immersed in electrolyte in a tank 5. As the drum rotates in one direction the articles are subjected to treatment. Then the drum is rotated in the opposite direction and the articles are withdrawn from the liquid by the sections b, c and eventually drop on to a shoot 15 extending through an opening in one end of the drum.
