Abstract

Compounds of the general formula <FORM:0660985/IV (b)/1> wherein R2 is an alkyl radical, R3 is a hydrogen atom or a carbalkoxy or acyl group, are prepared by reacting in the presence of an alkali a compound of the formula <FORM:0660985/IV (b)/2> where R2 has the above significance, and a compound of the formula <FORM:0660985/IV (b)/3> wherein R1 is an alkyl radical or an alkoxy radical. The reaction may be effected in the presence of an absolute ethyl alcohol solution of sodium ethylate. The group R2 may be a hexyl, the isobutyl or an amyl radical. In the examples ethyl acetoacetate is reacted with 3,4-methylene-dioxy-stearyl-n-hexyl ketone and the corresponding isobutyl and n-amyl ketones to give compounds of the above general formula in which R3 is <FORM:0660985/IV (b)/4> and R2 is n-hexyl, isobutyl and n-amyl, and the corresponding compounds wherein R3 represents hydrogen. Piperonal-methyl-n-hexyl ketone of the formula <FORM:0660985/IV (b)/5> is prepared by reacting at a low temperature in the presence of caustic soda, piperonal and methyl-n-hexyl ketone.
