[Class 80(ii)] A centrifugal friction clutch, made mainly from pressed metal parts, comprises a plate 10 secured to a driving sleeve 12 and having radial vanes 20 pressed axially from it to form pockets for radially-movable segmental masses 23 having arcuate friction facings 27 for engagement with a surrounding freely-mounted driven drum 11 in opposition to a common disengaging garter-spring 32, the masses being constructed as follows to permit of readily changing their weight. A rectangular metal strip 23, Fig. 7, is bent to arcuate form over its mid-section to receive the friction facing 27, its ends being bent down adjacent corner cut-outs 24 which accommodate the disengaging spring 32 which latter is retained by slightly bending up the adjacent corner part 33 on which the spring rests. To make up the weight, segmental laminations 28, Fig. 8, are attached by a split-pin 30 passing through a tongue 25 pressed out of the band 23, the number of laminations being varied as required to vary the weight of the friction shoe. The driven member 11 has press-fitted in it spaced porous metal bushings 35 running on the driving sleeve 12 and, to prevent oil from reaching the friction surfaces centrifugally, the boss of the member 11 also has press-fitted end-washers 35b which are a running fit on the sleeve 12.
