Abstract
645,261. Sawing. WENDORFF, B. June 16, 1948, No. 15881. [Class 145(ii)]. [Also in - Group I] In a tree trimming appliance of the kind in which a circular saw 5 is carried at one end of manipulating. handle 11, the saw being housed in a guard casing 10 having projecting fingers 19 for properly locating the saw with respect to the material being trimmed, the saw guard is adjustably rotatable about the axis of the saw and is provided with manually controlled locking means 25 for releasably locking the guard in any one of a selected number of positions relative to the manipulating handle. As shown the saw is actuated through a flexible drive 13 enclosed in the manipulating handle 11, the sleeve 8 in which is mounted the saw arbor 6 and which is attached to the tube 11 being mounted inside a boss 9 carried by the flanged guard 10 rotatably attached to the sleeve 8 by a locking ring 12. A locking pin or plunger 25 secured to the end of a finger grip 29 passes through a hole in the boss 9 for engagement with one of a series of circumferentially spaced holes 26 in the sleeve 8 and is retained therein by means of a spring 27. An auxiliary handle 24 may be provided on the guard, whilst the fingers 19 have detachable serrated inserts 30 adapted to contact the tree trunk and serve as spacing members. The flexible drive shaft may be replaced by a rigid shaft in a straight tubular manipulating handle and the saw be driven therefrom by bevel &c. gearing.
