Abstract

643,001. Belt or chain gearing SANDERS,G., and HAWKER AIRCRAFT Ltd May 31, 1948, No. 14667. [Class 80(i)] Tensioning means is provided for a chain or belt drive (not shown) between the shaft 5 of an electric motor 3 and a driven shaft 21. The shaft 21 is mounted in a tubular housing 20 having an eccentric journal 19 mounted in a boss 11 provided on a tray-like casing 1. The boss has a transverse and a longitudinal slit and may be compressed, by a screw 16, to clamp the journal 19. A circumferential slot 18 passes through pads 17 which form notches engageable by a retractable spring-loaded latch 26 mounted on the journal 19 by means of a bolt 30. The motor 3 is mounted on the casing 1, and the casing is provided with bosses 9 by means of which the transmission device may be pivotally carried by a rotatable stand. The driven shaft 21 is adapted for connection to a flexible shaft or a grinding wheel.
