[Class 43] A feeding device of the magazine type for rivets and the like, and particularly for use in blind riveting, includes two or more elongated jaws spring-urged lengthwise and shaped externally intermediate their ends to co-operate with the forward end of the jaw housing, the co-operating parts being so shaped that said jaws are normally held in the closed position, but can be carried forward by the leading rivet as the latter is advanced, into positions in which they are free to open. Two jaws 1, 2, with internal lips 3 at their outer ends and an external flange 5 at their inner ends, have intermediate external projections 4 which taper towards the inner ends of the jaws. The jaws. which present between them a cylindrical passage 7 for the rivets, are fitted in a housing 12 which is secured to the barrel 13 of a riveting tool, and which has at its outer end an internal flange 14 tapered at 15 to co-operate with the projections 4. One end of a compression spring 16 abuts against the internal flange 14 of the housing 12, the other end abutting against the external flange 5 of the jaws, so that the jaws are urged into the housing into positions in which the tapering parts 4, 15 co-act to prevent said jaws opening. In operation when the leading rivet 8 is advanced tail first along a mandrel 19, its head engages the inclined surfaces of the lips 3 and moves the jaws axially against the action of the spring 16 until the co-operating parts 4, 15 reach positions in which they allow the jaws to open; when the rivet 8 has passed right through the jaws the latter are returned by the spring 16 to their closed positions, and the front face 17 of the jaws acts as an anvil. The jaws may be curved for operation in places difficult of access.
