Abstract

639,683. Refrigerating. HALL, Ltd., J. & E., and HALES, R. T. Nov. 7, 1947, No. 29701. [Class 29] [Also in Groups XXXV and XXXVII] The expansion valve 7 of a compression system is controlled in accordance with the difference in temperature between the refrigerant in the pipe 48 connecting the expansion valve to the evaporator 2 and in the pipe 47 connecting the evaporator to the compressor 1, the controlling means not being in direct communication with the refrigerant in the system. The expansion valve is electro-magnetically operated as described in Specification 639,682, [Group XXXVII], and the control apparatus comprises two micro-switches 11, 12 in parallel. the switch 11 being actuated by a rod 13 secured to a bellows 19 acting against a spring 14. The bellows 19 is connected to a thermostat bulb 18 attached to the pipe 48, and opens the switch 11 on attainment of a given low temperature. The switch 12 is actuated by a bell-crank lever 32 pivoted at 28 and having a peg 33 engaging a collar 34 on a rod 35 fixed between two opposed bellows 38, 39 and urged to switchopening position by a spring 36. The bellows 38 is conected to a thermostat bulb 42 attached to the pipe 43 adjacent the bulb 18, and the bellows 39 is connected to a bulb 43 attached to the suction pipe 47 so that the switch 12 is operated according to the temperature difference. The switches are of the type described in Specification 419,917, [Group XXXVII].
