Abstract

639,281. Vacuum gauges. MINISTER OF SUPPLY. Nov. 26, 1947, No. 31316. [Class 106 (ii)] A vacuum gauge 3 for a low-pressure system 1 comprises a vacuum pump 4, whose inlet is connected to the system, shunted by a flow resistance or throttle 6, which may be adjustable, and a differential pressure indicator, e.g. an oil-containing U-tube 9 or a bellows. As shown, the system 1 is continuously evacuated and connected by an apertured disc 10 to a diffusion pump 4 such that the pressure difference built up across the resistance 6 can be detected by the U-tube or other indicator which is insensitive to the system pressure.
