637,853. Calculating-apparatus. OBRECHT, R. E. Sept. 26, 1945, No. 24920. Convention date, April 27, 1944. [Class 106 (i)] A slide rule comprises two fixed strips and an intermediate slide arranged in a common plane wherein the strips are supported on a base member and are covered by a transparent panel, the longitudinal marginal edges of the base member and the panel being engaged by separate reinforcing members. As shown, the device comprises a pasteboard base 22, two bracing strips 23 secured to the base, a graduated slide 25 and a graduated cover 26 of transparent material. The longitudinal margins of the assembly are reinforced by slit tubes 27 clamping the edges. In a modification, Fig. 2, the edges of the base 22 and cover 26 are flanged and the bracing strips are held in position by means of a rubber strip 33. The rubber strip may be replaced by a spring. The base may also be transparent. In a further modification, two printed plates are inserted between the transparent base and cover members. The tubes may be provided with bevelled profiles.
