Abstract
633,041. Filters. NORDENGREN, S. G. Dec. 10, 1947, No. 32559. Convention date, Dec. 11, 1946. [Class 46] In a travelling belt filter in which the belt is made up of a series of vessels and an auxiliary elastic suction belt is provided between the main belt and the suction box or boxes, the elastic suction belt is provided with means for causing the belt to revolve simultaneously with the vessel belt, and a flexible conduit extends between each vessel and an appropriate channel in the suction belt. As shown, a chain of filtering-vessels 1 is driven by a pair of cog-wheels 8 engaging cog elements mounted in inverted U members 3 secured to the vessels 1 and the spindles of wheels 2 rolling on a framework 15. An auxiliary elastic suction belt 4 is driven by slotted members 9 attached to the underside of the vessels 1 and engaging pipes 14 by which filtrate is conveyed from. the vessels 1 via flexible conduits 13 to T-shaped passages 19 in the suction, belt 4. The filtrate passes to a suction-box 5 with which the belt 4 is held in contact by atmospheric pressure, and which has partition walls and separate outlets for different filtrates. The lower half of the Figure shows the relative position of vessel 1 and belt 4 when the belts are rounding the ends of the framework 15. Separate bolts or pipes in addition to those marked 14 may be provided on the belt 4 for driving purposes. Alternatively. the belt 4 may be driven by cog-wheels engaging link chains on both sides of the belt which have lengthened bolts passing through holes in the belt 4. The cog wheels driving these chains are connected to the cogwheels 8 in such a way that the rates of revolution of the belts are the same. The vessel-belt 1 may alternatively be driven by a drum having a polygonal section, each side of the polygon being equal to' the length of one link of the vessel belt.
