632,752. Electric condensers. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd. Aug. 22, 1947, No. 23269. Convention date, Aug. 22, 1946. [Class 37] A method of manufacturing a condenser comprises coating a base-plate of insulating or conducting material, with superimposed thin layers of dielectric and conductive material alternately, by evaporation. The layers are built up until the required capacity is obtained by placing the base-plate 1 in an evacuated chamber 30 over heated dishes 35, 36, containing dielectric and conductive material respectively, and obscuring first one dish and then the other by means of an obturator 40 actuated by a camfollower 38 which engages in detents 37, 37a, when the appropriate-shaped mask aperture A-L (inclusive) in the mask-plate 31, is in position. The mask is rotated by a slow-speed motor 32 and may be actuated automatically at time intervals giving the desired thickness of material evaporated on to the base-plate.
