Abstract

631,170. Dispensing mixed drinks; separating measured quantities from bulk. DOLE VALVE CO. Feb. 15, 1946, No. 4794. Convention date, Feb. 2, 1945. [Classes 106(v) and 116] [Also in Group XXIX] A dispensing head and nozzle for dispensing a mixed drink (of syrup and carbonated water) in which the syrup is metered and the two components delivered in separate streams to mix in a cup outside the apparatus comprises a hollow body built up of members 11, 12, 13 and 14, in which slides a ring shaped member 17 in which is secured the metering chamber 18 for the syrup. This chamber has an outlet 20 flanged externally at 40 and normally closed by the end of a rod 21 secured at its upper end to a heavy member 22 inside the syrup tank 10 and having a chamfered surface 50 adapted to cooperate with a surface 51 in the body member 11 to cut off the syrup chamber from the tank when the drink is being dispensed. The outside of the chamber 18 has a multi-start thread 23 the capillary passages formed thereby communicating at their upper end by a passage 26 with a water valve 27 and at the lower end opening into a space between the lower part of the chamber 18 and the member 17. A carbonated water supply under pressure is taken to the space 34 in the valve 27 and on pressing the plunger 31 to the left, water is forced into the dispensing head through passages 33, 32, 26. The pressure of water against the end of the member 17 depresses this and the chamber 18 against the spring 46, opening the valve 20 to discharge syrup and closing the valve 51, 50, the water being discharged through the capillary passages 23. A nozzle 35 having a sealing ring 45 is a push fit in the lower part of the member 17 and has two concentric passages defined by tubes 36 and 37 the latter reducing in diameter towards the lower end. The tube 36 fits inside a flange 39 on the base of the chamber 18 and has an internal diameter less than that of the flange 20 so that the viscous syrup falls clear of the tube 36. The water, discharged in a whirling manner is diverted downwardly by vanes 41a, Fig. 2, between the walls 36, 37 of the nozzle there being, preferably at least as many vanes as outlets from the capillary passages 23, and the vanes 41 a-c being longer than the vanes 41 d-f. The vanes secure the two parts 36, 37 of the nozzle together. The nozzle may be of transparent plastic. This construction is stated to be hygienic, the area on which syrup may lodge being a minimum, easily cleaned and to reduce foaming.
