Abstract

629,819. Generating combustion products under pressure. LEDUC, R. Dec. 12, 1947, No. 32791. Convention date, Sept. 6, 1946. [Class 51 (i)] [Also in Group XXVI] The casing of a centrifugal compressor combined with a turbine rotor encloses an annular combustion chamber 20 of toroidal shape bounded by a thin wall 11 supported from the casing. The main delivery from the compressor is divided by a partition 10, which is parallel with the wall 11, into two streams f 2 <SP>1</SP>, f 2 <SP>11</SP>. The stream f 2 <SP>11</SP> enters the combustion chamber and acts as the primary air for the burners 15. The second stream f 2 <SP>1</SP> passes between the partition 10 and wall 11 and serves to cool the outer wall to which it tends to cling. The burners 15 also act as stays supporting the wall 11 and partition 10 which are free to slide in the axial direction of the burners thus providing freedom for expansion effects.
