627,834. Cable attachments and couplings. INTERTYPE, Ltd. Jan. 4, 1946, No. 376. Convention date, June 9, 1945. [Class 109] A swivel anchor connection for cable comprises a length of twisted wire cable, a spherical terminal adjacent one end of the cable, a cylindrical shank extending along the cable from the spherical terminal to which the cable is swaged, and a sleeve arranged about the spherical terminal to form a rotatable seating therefor, the terminal and cable being free for limited and guided axial movement therewithin. The shank preferably extends along the cable beyond the end of the sleeve when the spherical terminal is seated therewithin. The opposite end of the sleeve may be attached to a fitting. A terminal ball 2 is swaged to a steel cable 1, adjacent its end, and the terminal wires of the cable are also swaged to a solid mass 3. A shank 5 is provided, preferably integral with the ball, the shank being also swaged to the cable. The ball end of the cable is housed in a sleeve 10 having an enlarged bore 13, a narrower bore 11 for the shank and an intermediate tapered part 12 providing a seating for the ball. The swivel connection is shown attached to a shackle 25 by means of a pin 16, the pin and the shakle turning together to permit swivelling of the shackle. In a modification, the sleeve is part of a turn-buckle, the opposite end of the sleeve being threaded for attachment of a threaded connector, such as a take-up eye bolt. In a further modification, the sleeve 53, Fig. 5, merges into a flattened portion 55 apertured to receive a ring 51 for connecting a fishing line 50 to a wire cable leader 1.
