Abstract
624,664. Integrating apparatus. AMENDE, F. H. Jan. 29, 1947, No. 2793. [Class 106 (iv)] [Also in Group XX] An instrument for registering heat units comprises a meter operated by the flow of fluid in a system, the meter driving registering means under the control of two lost-motion mechanisms, the resultant lost-motion being dependent on the difference in temperature between two points, where are disposed temperature sensitive devices. A fluid-flow meter a drives, through a flexible coupling band gears d to h, two cams i, j, fixed on a shaft k and having equal, coincident excentricity. Two levers m, 19 fulcrumed at 22 have rollers p bearing on the cams i, j and as they are lifted thereby the lever m advances a ratchet wheel u and as they are lowered the lever 19 assisted by a spring 20 further advances the wheel u. The downward movement of the levers m, 19 is limited by the co-operation of arms n, pivoted at o and restricted in one direction by stops q, with cams 2, 3, which may be toothed, fixed on a lever x fulcrumed at y. The cams 2, 3 are set through linkwork by Bourdon tubes 9, 12 communicating with the temperature at the inlet and outlet of the heating system respectively so that at a predetermined maximum temperature difference the arm x is moved to its extreme right and the arms m, 19 oscillate to their full amplitude, while for 50 per cent of the said temperature difference the arm n of lever 19 rests on the horizontal part of cam 3 and only arm m oscillates to the full, its amplitude falling as the temperature difference falls. The ratchet wheel u actuates an indicator or counter to register the heat used. To register the heat units available in a fluid, the Bourdon tube 12 is maintained at some datum temperature, the amount of heat registered being relative to this temperature.
