Abstract

624,397. Surgical optical instruments. AMERICAN CYSTOSCOPE MAKERS, Inc. June 9, 1947, No. 15115. Convention date, June 12, 1946. [Class 81(ii)] A detachable unit for insertion into an endoscopic sheath comprises a body with a forwardly directed extension member which divides the sheath into telescope and instrument compartments and carries at its forward end a deflector operated through two parallel rods by an oscillating lever on the body. The body member 21 fits tightly in a tapered seating 29 in a collar 14 at the end of the sheath 10 and is held by a clamp 17. A central channelshaped member 30 extends along the sheath and divides it into an upper compartment 31, into which a bougie, catheter &c. may be introduced through guide 26, and a lower compartment occupied by a telescope 61. The telescope is held and located by a clamp 56 at the end of an arm 55 projecting from the body 21. A deflector 35 pivoted at the end of the channel member 30 is employed to direct the bougie or other device as required. It is raised or lowered by a link 50 on each side, each connected with a depending arm of an external lever 44. Petcocks 16 communicate with the interior of the instruments for the introduction,or removal of fluids. An obturator, see Fig. 9, (not shown), is inserted through the upper compartment to close the fenestra 11 during introduction of the instrument.
