Abstract
620,586. Catamenial tampons. BURGESS, A. F. (International Cellucotton Products Co.). March 20, 1946, No. 8640. [Class 81(ii)] A catamenial tampon consists of an absorbent body 1 of compacted wadding enclosed in a tubular wrapper 2, one end 7 of the wrapper constituting a drawstring, and the other end 4, of less length than that of the body 1, extending into and being gripped by the body. A wrapping 14 of absorbent creped paper covered with cotton &c. fibres 15 may be provided on the body. The wrapper 2 may be knitted or braided directly on to the body. The draw string is preferably also tucked into a recess 8 in the body. The tampon is housed in a paper tube preferably covered with "Cellophane" (Registered Trade Mark), or other non-absorbent covering, and is ejected by a second tube. The first tube is roughened at the rear end by knurling, embossing or puncturing to provide grippable portion: alternatively, the non- absorbent covering may be stopped short of the end of the tube.
