Abstract
620,004. Electric pens. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., CROPPER, W. C., and WELLS, G. M. Jan. 1, 1947, No. 25. [Class 146 (iii)] [Also in Groups XXIII and XXXIX] A vibratory engraving tool comprises a piezo electric device adapted for connection to a source of electric oscillations for setting it into vibration at ultra sonic frequency 'and a stylus. As shown, thin strips 1 of piezo electric crystals, e.g. quartz, are separated by electrodes 2 of thin metal foil and a strip of steel 5 wider than the crystals divides the pile into two parts. A block of steel 8 carrying the stylus 10 is fixed at one end and a counter weight 9 of steel at the other end. A cover 6 of insulating material carrying electrodes 4 surrounds the device and acts as a handle. A thermionic valve oscillator may be used to excite the device and produce ultra sonic vibrations in the stylus.
