Abstract
611,311. Refrigerating. PHILCO RADIO & TELEVISION CORPORATION. Sept. 6, 1945, No. 23002. Convention date, Sept. 29, 1944. [Class 29] An evaporator 2 forms a closed electrical circuit and is defrosted by inducing a heating current therein by a coil 19 and magnetic core 18. Defrosting takes place at the start of a cooling period, when the evaporator is warmest. A thermostatically operated switch 14 controls the compressor motor 5 and each time this switch is closed a solenoid 25 turns a ratchet wheel 28 through one tooth. After six actuations a pin 27 on the ratchet wheel rocks a switch 24 to open contacts 23 in the motor circuit, close contacts 22 in the circuit of the coil 19 and wind a timing mechanism 31, refrigeration is thus stopped and defrosting takes place. After a predetermined time the mechanism 31 releases the switch 24 to break the circuit of the coil 19 and make the motor circuit.
