Abstract

610,727. Gasifying unmined coal. DEMART, P. Dec. 21, 1945, No. 34738. Convention date, Feb. 28. [Class 55(ii)] In a subterranean gasification installation comprising a gallery 1 for admission of air for combustion and a gallery 2 for evacuation of gas a common portion 3 which is isolated by plates 4, 5 accommodates a tube assembly 6 providing air passages in the path of the gases discharged. To provide for expansion of the tubes, plate 5 passes the end of a tube 7 capable of sliding in the lining of a masonry seating 9. Baffles 10, and deformations 15 increase the length of passage over the air tubes. From gallery 2 the gases may be conveyed to the surface through a sheet metal duct 14 within the air gallery 1 instead of through gallery 2.
