Abstract
An expansion joint for concrete and the like roads, floors and the like is formed from a composition comprising an aqueous rubber dispersion, a cementitious material such as Portland or aluminous cement, and a proportion of comminuted rubber, the term "rubber" including natural rubber, allied vegetable resins such as guttapercha and balata, synthetic rubbers such as elastomeric derivatives of butadiene, styrene and chloroprene, and rubber reclaim. In an example 200 parts by weight of Portland or aluminous cement are mixed with 160 parts of comminuted rubber waste and the mixture formed into a circular dam, whereupon a mixture of 100 parts concentrated rubber latex and 75 parts of water is poured in whilst stirring steadily from the centre.
