Abstract
599,711. Speedometers. ABBEY, A. (Standard Machinery Co.). Oct. 4, 1945, No. 25906. [Class 106 (iii)] In a speedometer for determining the speeds of rotating shafts and other machine elements, a casing 2 is formed or provided with a projecting stem 5, a linear scale, Fig. 5, is disposed along the stem, the indicator is in the form of a pointer 44 and either the scale or pointer is fixed to the stem, with the other member movable relatively thereto along the stem so as to afford a reading on the scale by the pointer. The pointed and squared tip 17 engages the shaft to be measured and the thrust on the spindle 15 is taken by ball bearings 11. A compression spring 46 balancing the centrifugal force of weights 30, extends into a sleeve 35, the end of which carries the pointer 44. A sheath 53 of transparent material surrounds the stem 5.
