Abstract

599,646. Bedsteads. WHITFIELDS BEDSTEADS, Ltd., and WHITFIELD, C. G. Sept. 22, 1945, No. 24590. [Class 52(ii)] An invalid bedstead, having a mattress with angularly adjustable head, body, and leg sections, a, b, i is provided with a pair of slotted brackets f, bolted at f<1> to either side of the head section a of the mattress frame, the slots having passing there through a spindle c mounted in brackets d<1> which are welded to the tubular framework d. The spindle c has mounted thereon three loose sleeves e, the outer sleeves, between brackets d<1> and f being provided with flanged ends e<1> which abut against the outer faces of brackets f, while the central sleeve is flanged at either end e<2> to abut against the inner faces of brackets f. The threaded end of spindle c is provided with a hand-wheel nut c<1> such that the tightening thereof provides clamping action between flanges e<1>, e<2> and brackets f thereby allowing the. mattress frame to be secured in any desired position within the limits of adjustment. The mattress frame may be locked in the horizontal position by means of a catch g, secured to the bedstead framework, and a spring loaded trigger arm h which forms a radial extension of a transversely disposed bolt rotatably mounted in brackets a<2> on head section a.
