Abstract

599,579. Building-units for sound insulation. CULLUM, D. J. W. Sept. 19, 1945, No. 24191. [Classes 20(iv) and 87(i)] A rigid, fire-resistant, sound-insulating unit for walls, partitions or ceilings consists of inner and outer facing sheets 1, 2 of plastic or plastic-bonded material, one or both being perforated, solidly united by closely-spaced webs 3 which define a series of passages between the sheets which are filled with slagwool, kapok, &c. 5. The sheets and webs may be formed of a synthetic resin or resin-bonded paper united by heat and pressure or the unit may be moulded or extruded by the use of a suitable plastic. Examplary dimensions are: sheet thickness, # inch, web spacing, two inches, unit thickness, one inch. The unit may have bevelled edges and be closed all round when the passages have been filled.
