Abstract
598,992. Valve casings. SAUNDERS VALVE CO:, Ltd. (Boteler, H. W.). Aug. 17, 1945, No. 21053. [Class 135] The casing of a diaphragm-type valve comprises a hollow barrel 10 having a cut-out 21 in its wall between the ends to which annular flanges 11 are secured, a third flange 16 parallel to the axis of the barrel and attached to the wall thereof at the cut-out, a pair of side plates 19 secured to opposite sides of the barrel along the edge of the cut-out and also to flange 16, preferably along its inner edge, a weir seat 26 extending across the barrel and connected at its ends to flange 16, and a pair of shovel-like plates 27 connected to opposite sides of the weir seat 26 and being connected along their edges to the inner faces of plates 19 and the inner surface of the barrel, the plates all being made of sheet stock bent to the desired form and free from areas in which the stock is distorted from its plane about more than one axis. The various parts are welded together. Flange 16 is seated in recesses in the cut-out 21 and its edge 25 is cut away at these parts to facilitate liquid flow. Flanges 11 are bolted to the inlet and outlet conduits, and the bonnet containing the actuating mechanism is bolted to flange 16 so that the diaphragm is clamped between them.
