598,439. Producing appliquÚ articles. ROYAL LACE PAPER WORKS. Sept. 4, 1945, No. 22704. Convention date, Nov. 25, 1944. [Class 100 (ii)] AppliquÚ articles such as shelf edgings &c. are made by a process in which a design is first printed on a web of paper or plastic material 1 by means of printing-rollers 2, 3, or by a platen printing process, and the printed impression, or a part thereof, is then covered in register with a plastic applying apparatus such as an intaglio roller 4, which rotates in contact with a duct 6 of plastic material, and is acted upon by a doctor blade 8. An applique effect is thus produced, and the applied plastic may imitate stitching around the edges of a design, or the edges and vanes of leaves. The plastic may be thermoplastic, or thermosetting but must be transparent when cooled, and may comprise synthetic resins such as cellulose acetate, cellulose acetate butyrate, acrylic resins, stearene resins, or vinyl, urea, or phenolic resins.
