598,293. Belt gearing. MANCIA, J., MEGEL, G., and USINES TORNOS FABRIQUE DE MACHINES MOUTIER SOC. ANON. Feb. 28, 1944, No. 3659. Convention date, Feb. 9, 1943. [Class 80(i)] [Also in Group XXII] In a belt drive for a shaft 21 carried in a movable headstock 12 of an automatic screw machine or other lathe, both sides 10<SP>1</SP>, 10<SP>11</SP> of a belt 10 connecting driving and driven pulleys 8, 9, pass through a single aperture 28 in the headstock and the latter carries a single flanged guide pulley 11 over which one side 10<SP>1</SP> of the belt passes. The pulley 9, preferably flangeless, is mounted on a removable sleeve 22 in the headstock and is connected by a coupling member 27 to the driven shaft 21 which is supported by bearings 23, 24, in the sleeve 22. One of the two bearings 15, 16, for the driving shaft 14 is mounted in a disc 17 carried in a bore 18 in the machine frame. Thus, by removing the disc 17 and bearing 16 and the sleeve 22 together with the bearings 23, 24 and pulley 9, the belt 10 may be removed intact. The machine bed is recessed at 33 to permit removal of the headstock 12 together with the guide pulley 11.
