[Class 122 (v)] In a pump including a housing 11, having a bearing hub 15 with a planar end face 16, a shaft 18 projecting through the end face of the hub, an impeller 19 on the shaft having a planar end face disposed opposite the bearing hub end face, a spring 23 acting on the shaft urging the impeller end face toward the bearing hub end face, a sealing washer 25 riding on the bearing hub end face and loosely embracing the shaft in freely spaced relationship thereto, an annular bushing 26 disposed around the shaft between the sealing washer and the impeller end face, said bushing having a solid resiliently deformable body which is radially substantially coextensive with said washer and provides an end face completely backing up the adjacent face of the sealing washer, a first bond sealingly' unites the abutting faces of said sealing washer and said bushing, and a second bond secures the bushing for rotation with the shaft and impeller, whereby the sealing washer is driven with the shaft and impeller through the bushing and the bushing accommodates tilting movements of the shaft and impeller through interparticle flow of the bushing material without unseating the sealing washer from the end face of the bearing hub. In a modified embodiment the bushing is bonded to an annular groove round the shaft.
