Abstract

To facilitate identification of electric conductors which are coated with thermoplastic material, the coatings are marked with a dye which is soluble in the thermoplastic material and in a readily volatilizable solvent, but insoluble in water. The thermoplastic material may be polymerized polyvinyl chloride, or the copolymer of vinyl acetate and vinyl chloride. The dyes used may be hydrocarbon groups joined by an azo cromophor. The dyes may be p-aminoazobenzene, or the hydrochloride of 2-, 4-diaminoazobenzene, or dyes sold under the Registered Trade Mark "Waxoline," or under the colour marks Nigrosine (NS and 2BS); Induline (2BS and 5BS); Oil Yellow; spirit yellow 1; and spirit red III. The dye solvent may comprise 10 per cent benzene and 90 per cent acetone.
