Abstract
591,505. Gripping appliances for use with artificial arms. HOARE, C. G. March 2, 1945, No. 5258. [Class 81 (ii)] A gripping appliance for use with an artificial arm and of the kind comprising spring-urged jaws pivoted so that they close as the rear extensions thereof open, and vice versa, is characterized in that one of the rear extensions 5 is furnished with a pivoted lever assembly 18 having a roller 17 running on a cam track 16 on the other extension 2, movement of the lever by cable 22 serving to close the jaws. As shown, the cam track and roller may be toothed. The main hinge pin passes through semi-circular lugs 7 on one jaw arm between which is interposed a central lug on the other arm, the latter being formed with an abutment face adapted to be engaged by an adjusting screw 23. Coil spring 10 encircles hinge pin head 13, its ends engaging pegs 14, 15 on jaws 3, 4. Wire cutting blades 25 are positioned on pegs 28 in slots in the jaws.
