Abstract

589,224. Movable eyes for dolls. POPPER, F. and POPPER, E. March 20, 1945, No. 7041. [Class 132 (iii)] A toy animal or doll has a pair of eyes 1, 2 rotatable in unison, about vertical and horizontal axes by mounting on vertical pivots 7, 8, passing through a channel member 9 pivotally mounted at 12, 13 within the head of the toy, the eyes being linked together loosely by a deformable wire 18 located behind the eyes. Rods 14, 15 extend from the backs of the eyes rearwardly and downwardly to discs 16 and 17 which function as air brakes when the eyes rotate in unison about their vertical axes. The eyes simulate horizontal and opening and closing movements when the doll is appropriately tilted. Excessive vertical movement is checked by the ends of a stop 19 rigidly secured to the channel member 9. The device is mounted upon two leaf springs or deformable straps 3 and 4 glued at points 5 and 6 to the inside of the cheeks of the doll in such a manner that the eyeballs 1 and 2 appear in the eye-sockets in the hollow head of the doll.
