Abstract
587,621. Toys. PAVELY, D. A., and WILLIAMS, A. M. R. Feb. 18, 1944, No. 3093. [Class 132 (iii)] A marionette appliance comprising a support or stage having one or more threads, cords, bands or like flexible and preferably elastically extensible elements forming a mount for one or more articulated figures or puppets and so arranged that the movements are imparted to the figures or puppets by repeatedly pulling and then releasing the flexible element or elements. The stage or support is made from a thin sheet of plywood, Balsa wood, cardboard, metal or other suitable material assembled into the box form shown in Fig. 1. The front 14 of the box is provided with an aperture 27 to serve as a stage opening. The back of the box is folded to provide the stage floor 15 and the extension 25 is brought against the front 14, so leaving a recess 16 in which a weight or weights may be located to hold the stage securely. A fine thread 2, the loop 3 of which is anchored to a tongue 4 on one side wall of the stage, is stretched across the stage and threaded through an eye in the opposite wall 7. A puppet 9, such as that described in Specification 587,620, is mounted as shown on this thread so that by repeatedly tautening and releasing the thread 2 a dancing motion is given to the puppet 9. The loop 3 may be formed by a separate rubber ring or (a) a continuously elastic thread could be used, (b) a light spring may be used in its place. A number of threads and puppets, mounted in the manner shown, may be used. An ornamental front 28 is also provided.
