Abstract
584,222. Cleaning drinking glasses &c. CLARKE, T. A., MALIN, J., and HINKS, G. F. Dec. 16, 1944, No. 25307. [Class 138 (i)] A machine for cleaning drinking-glasses, tankards, &c. of the kind described in Specifications 371,704 and 479,203, in which a vertical or horizontal casing 13 is fitted with a diaphragm 12a having a central aperture through which the glass is introduced into the cleansing chamber which is fitted with spraying devices for the inside and outside of the glasses, and with brushing &c. devices also, is constructed with a slidable member 22 which is engaged by the inserted glass and moved thereby over the central spray pipe 9 and by means of a plunger 25 operates a valve 27 to connect the water supply to a chamber 26 which supplies the spray pipes. One or more flexible rubber bands 21, 24, preferably of porous rubber of the kind known under the Registered Trade Mark " Sorbo," are associated with the member 22, and are made to press firmly on the exterior of the glasses by movement of the member. Plate springs 34 assist the action of the bands. The pipe 9 is driven by a motor B controlled by a switch operated by a pedal and opened automatically when pressure is released. The interior of the glass is sprayed by a nozzle 9b and the exterior by spray pipes 15 which may be formed with cranked ends as shown in Fig. 5. The pipe 9 is fitted at its front end with flaps 11 for engaging the interior of the glass, and these may be shaped like screw propeller vanes, and similar members 11a of radial arm formation may be arranged near the vanes 11. Brushes 20 for acting on handles of tankards are used. The diaphragm 12a is clamped between rings 14, 14a and is kept moist by sprays from an annular member 18 connected by tubes 15a and a coupling member 19 to the water chamber 16. The casing 13 may be made of transparent material preferably of the material known under the Registered Trade Mark " Perspex."
