Abstract

574,529. Splints. HARRIS, C. H. Jan. 21, 1944, No. 1184. [Class 81(ii)] A laterally deformable splint comprises an elongated block or pad 6, Fig. 3, moulded from a resilient material and longitudinally disposed reinforcement members 7 embedded therein. In a modification, Fig. 4, the block comprises a body 10 of felt or other suitable fibrous material and a sheathing 11 of solid or sponge rubber. The block may be rectangular in cross section and be moulded from soft, synthetic or sponge rubber, or a homogeneous composition embodying cork, sawdust or plastic material such as polyvinyl choride. The reinforcement may be aluminium, an alloy thereof, any other suitable metal, or a sufficiently rigid material such as wood, fibre or plastic, and may comprise bars, rods or a thin resilient corrugated plate.
