Abstract
573,542. Mixing-machines. ATHEY, J. W. Oct. 27, 1943, No. 17716. [Class 86] In a mixing-machine, e.g. for foundry sand, of the kind comprising a cylindrical pan or hopper, a series of blades carried by a vertical, rotary shaft and curved to cause the materials to be mixed to travel outwardly, and inclined or curved ribs or projections on the wall of the pan, upstanding ribs a are provided on the bottom of the pan to define channels along which the materials are pressed towards the wall of the pan. Preferably, the ribs have an arcuate upper surface and are curved backwardly in relation to the direction of movement of the blades. The ribs on the wall of the pan are curved forwardly in relation to such direetion, and adjoining ends of these ribs and of the ribs a are bent back so that the pairs of ribs merge into a common curve. Preferably, the junction of the wall and bottom of the pan is curved, and the ribs a may be interrupted to leave channels through which projections on the blades can sweep. In a modification, the ribs a are interrupted to produce series of curved or tapered projections.
