Abstract

573,145. Liquid cleansing compositions. SOC. OF CHEMICAL INDUSTRY IN BASLE. Nov. 2, 1942, No. 15387. Convention date, Oct. 27, 1941. [Class 91] A liquid cleansing composition, particularly for fabrics, comprises a mixture of a terpene alcohol, a soap, with or without water, together with a wetting agent and another organic solvent. The fatty acid equivalent of the soap does not exceed 15 per cent. by weight of the finished composition. The wetting agents used are acid resistant compounds. The terpene alcohols specified comprise d-terpineol, fenchyl alcohol, borneol and natural mixtures containing terpene alcohols, such as pine oil. The soaps specified comprise olein, linoleic, lauric, palmitic and stearine soaps particularly potassium oleate. The wetting agents specified comprise salts of naphthalene sulphonic acids containing an alkyl, cycloalkyl, or an aralkyl residue, such as salts of di-isopropyl, dibutyl, or amyl naphthalene sulphonic acids, and also the sulphonic acid salts of sulpho-dicarboxylic acid esters such as the salts of 4-sulpho-phthalic acid-(2' ethyl butyl)-(2<1> ethyl hexyl) ester and of sulpho-succinic acid di-(2 ethyl hexyl) ester. The additional organic solvents specified comprise hydrocarbons, such as hydrogenated napththalene, e.g., tetrahydro - naphthalene; chlorinated hydrocarbons, e.g., chlorobenzene; alcohols, e.g., isopropyl alcohol, benzyl alcohol, and methyl-cyclohexanol; and ethers, e.g., glycol ethers.
