Abstract

572,342. Fusible cut-outs. HOPE, V. Oct. 27, 1943, No. 17719. [Class 38 (i)] A fuse which operates to open a circuit when subject to a prolonged or repeated overload comprises a resistance element associated with a massive fusible element of low melting point which serves to conserve heat-generated in the resistance element during the overload periods. The fusible element 11 is enclosed in a shell 16 of boric acid divided into halves so as to fit round the neck between the element 11 and resistance elements 15 that are let into the element 11 and are bent to reduce the space they occupy. This assembly may be associated with silver &c. fuses 10 to operate under short circuit conditions, or a separate fuse or thermal switch may be used in series. The shell 16 is varnished, the varnish forming a closure film for vents 17. The assembly is attached by copper &c. tags 12 to the end caps 13 of a cartridge that is filled with an extinguishing powder and may be lagged.
