[Class 91] Cleansing compositions comprise a mixture of a detergent of the class comprising watersoluble salts of sulphonic acids, alkyl sulphuric acids, and sulphuric acid esters of polyhydric alcohols incompletely esterified with a fatty acid of high molecular weight, and less than an equal weight of an alkylolamide selected from the group consisting of ethanolamides and glycerolamides of fatty acids having 12 to 14 carbon atoms. The compositions arising from the oreparation of water-soluble salts of sulphonic acids of the general formula R.CO. OR1.SO3OH where R.CO is the acyl radical of a fatty acid having 8 to 22 carbon atoms and R1 is an alkylene or hydroxy alkylene radical having 2 to 4 carbon atoms as described in Specification 573,470 are excluded. The alkylolamide compounds specified are those of lauric, myristic and mixtures of fatty acids predominant in either or both of those acids such as coconut oil and palm kernel oil fatty acids. Of the three classes of the main ingredient of the compositions, the compounds specified comprise (1) the oleic acid ester of the Na salt of isethionic acid, the coconut oil fatty acid monoester of 1.2 dihydroxy propane 3. Na sulphonate, the NH, salt of the oleic acid amide of methyl taurine, the Na salt of lauryl sulpho-acetic acid the K salt of the sulphonic acid derived from the condensation product of benzene and a chlorinated kerosene fraction, and the lauryl ether of 1.3 dihydroxy propane 3 Na sulphonate: (2) triethanol NH, or Na alkyl sulphate from the mixed higher alcohols obtainable by reducing coconut oil, and the Na alkyl sulphate derived from the higher alcohols of sperm oil; (3) the Na salt of the sulphuric acid ester of coconut oil monoglyceride.
